Fun, Fancy and Whimsical Books

Description: In this class we will learn how to make three (maybe four if time allows) styles of unusual, fun books. We will make a Concertina, Flip/Flop Accordion, and simple Flag style book (and Starburst if time allows). These books are useable and just plain fun to look at and handle.

Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate, ages 15 and up
Materials: Teacher will supply cardboard, paste, and miscellaneous tools. Paper Zone will supply scissors, Exacto knives, rulers, and cutting mats for use during class. If you prefer, you can bring your own tools. Paper can be purchased at Paper Zone or you can use paper you already have. When referencing “large size decorative or Fabriano papers” I am referring to the papers Paper Zone displays on the standing racks at the back of the store. These are generally sized around 20x25 inches.
· Concertina Book: 1 sheet Fabriano paper and 2, 12x12 sheets of coordinated, decorative scrapbooking paper. The finished book will be approximately 4x6 inches.
· Flip/Flop Accordion Book: 1 large piece of decorative paper and two dozen sheets of coordinating text weight paper (or plain white home computer paper). The finished book will be approximately 4x5 inches. Your will also need a skein of coordinating embroidery floss.
· For Flag Book: 2 sheets of cover weight paper (8 1/2x11inches) OR 1 large piece that you will cut down. For pages, please bring 6 sheets of relatively stiff text weight paper (24-60# will do, as will any paper that is not floppy). The finished book will be approximately 6x9 inches.
· For Starburst Book: We will use leftover papers, but bring 6 sheets of home computer paper just in case.
